"Users who wish to announce their location to their friends on Facebook would tap a "check in" button to see a list of places nearby, and then choose the place that matches where they are.
"After checking in, your check-in will create a story in your friends' News Feeds [on Facebook] and show up in the Recent Activity section on the page for that place," Places product manager Michael Sharon wrote on Facebook's blog.
Facebook staff also said the feature will be useful not only to let friends know where they are, but also to learn if their friends are nearby at the same time, and to write down what they are doing at the location and what they think about it -- creating a trail allowing friends to see what the writer did there days or even years ago.
When users check into a place, they also can "tag" any Facebook friends who are with them, essentially letting other friends know that the person is there, too. To cut down on the potential for users to falsely tag friends to a place, people can tag friends only if the taggers themselves check in to the location, too."

on a-whole-nother note, or maybe semi-related, fb has changed the whole meaning of "friend." Regardless of whatever it meant before, now it means a (hopefully) amicable acquaintance who knows exactly or can access where you are, what you're doing, what you like, what you look like, what your friends look like etc etc aT ANY TIME THEY WANT! Also, even if you want your privacy protected, OTHERS can reveal it.
Good thing I have nothing to hide and LOVE abusing this new definition of "friend"

but you know what?
i just realized that my mom's not leaving tomorrow
she left today
which means she's still on the plane
and i feel more distraught over the fact that she'll arrive to bad news in korea
than over the fact that he died.
i'm texting back and forth with jeremy.
the kim men were always more sensitive than the women.
envy that a little.
you know, my mom called me today and interrupted me in class
i was sort of embarrassed
and she was telling me about how she bookmarked a page in a catalog and was giving me directions on how to decorate my room.
and i cut her off and told her i was in class and then got annoyed that i had no way of accessing the house.
and then she said abba would email me
and then we hung up.
i should have said something more encouraging.
i'm such a brat.
gah.
okay, i now see why jeremy's texting me so much
we began talking about grandpa
then details
then randoms
and now he told me how to take care of the dog.
-_-
heh.

just received news from my cousin
talked with her a bit.
she's stressed about her MCATs and she stopped herself from describing her physical signs of stress in graphic detail.
i talked about my essay.
i wondered about how others would take the news
sent a rather pithy text to inform my sister
and a few doors away through the screen of my sliding glass door that i opened to the balmy oc air and cricket sounds, girls sang happy birthday.
i hear the tinkle of forks.
i felt like it was situationally ironic that as i think rather flippantly of my grandpa's passing, someone else is celebrating birth.
but then again, it's not like someone's being born.
and there's probably thousands born around the world.
or at least one.
when people die, i always feel like i'm scrounging for emotions.
because i feel curiously blank.
and not in shock either, but a selfish kind of blank.
as in a shoulder-shrug-move-on kind of blank
that's all for now.

wednesday tv.
covert affairs gets me all tense and nervous because the framework of the show is pretty predictable.
.. so i know what will probably come next (ie: some unforeseen issue dealing with the bad guys of the 'sode)
but it always gets me.
and i like how each episode, the conflicts in Langley reflect the conflicts going on at home.
i love the little lessons Annie learns.
hehehehe
i love how she's so perfect at everything she does, even though she's a rookie.
it helps me maintain my grounds, knowing that this is a TV show and is nowhere near to life.
the characters are also awesome.
whatever happened to the dude from the pilot who was the president's son in 24?

a conversation yesterday at the OC Fair
This is from my mom's point of view
she calls me
Me: Hello?
Mom: Hi Junia
Me: Hi blah blah blah how's Japan blah blah blah...
(conversation on her return / jet lag ensues. I feel guilty b/c I knew I should've called earlier)
Mom: Junia, i think my dad got worse.
Me: Your dad? Oh no what happened?
Mom: I don't know, but your uncle flew to Korea yesterday, and uncle paul might go soon.
Me: Wow.
Mom: Yeah, so I don't know, but I think I might go soon.
Me: So do you need me to go?
Mom: Yeah, that would be nice.
Me: Why is your dad hurt?
Mom: I don't know. He just got worse. It's very serious.
Me: Why? What did you do in Japan?
Mom: What?
Me: I mean, what did you do to your dad in Japan!
Mom: What do you mean?
Me: Anyway, yeah, classes are ending, and I can probably go to Korea with you, but I'm also looking for jobs and stuff so I'd prefer to stay here... but dang, your dad must hurt a lot.. why do you have to go to Korea for it?
Mom: WHaT?
Me: Wait, What?
Mom: What do you mean?
Me: I just don't understand why you're going to Korea for your back.
Mom: My back? What about my back?
Me; Wait what? I thought you said your back got worse.
Mom: No.. Ohh.. OHHHH..
(clarification and everything was better.. but for a while, I just sounded like a cold-hearted daughter accusing my mom of causing her father's health to get worse.. who'd rather work on her resumes than go to Korea and .. possibly see her grandfather for the last time.... yikes)
But you know, death doesn't really affect me.. at least, not as I think as it should. I read stuff about how death is unnatural and how Christ's ultimate victory is in that death loses its sting, but... i don't know.
